Freckles

Freckles are not damage and not a problem to solve. Plenty of clients ask us to protect them rather than remove them — and if you do want them softened, it is straightforward.

Are these freckles?

Tick what sounds like you. Nothing is stored, and it is not a diagnosis — it just makes the consult faster.

Often mistaken for

Age spots

Larger, arrive later, do not fade in winter — and worth treating for a different reason.

Melasma

Patches rather than dots, and hormone-driven. Treating it like freckles makes it worse.

Anything raised

Freckles are flat. Raised, growing or asymmetric spots go to a dermatologist first.

Freckled skin usually means a fair phototype, so the practical priority is protection: SPF habit, annual skin check, and a low threshold for referral.

Why it happens

Genetics loaded them; the sun turns the volume up

Freckles are melanocytes doing what your genes told them to, in clusters, when light hits. They come with the same fair phototype that burns easily — so the medically interesting part of this appointment is protection, not removal.

If you do want them lightened, broadband light clears them efficiently in one or two sessions. It is worth saying out loud that this is cosmetic and hard to undo: skin that has had its freckles removed does not grow them back on request.

1

Sunscreen and an annual skin check, whether or not you treat.

2

If treating: one or two BBL sessions, autumn or winter, spots flake within a week.

3

If not treating: brightening the background tone makes freckles read as intentional.

  • Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I came in convinced I needed a laser and left with a prescription cream and a sunscreen lecture. Six months later the patches on my cheeks are the faintest they have been in a decade. They could have sold me three of everything.

Nagwa showed me photographs of clients with my skin tone rather than the brochure ones, and she talked me out of the more expensive option. Two peels in, my makeup sits properly for the first time since my twenties.

The spots on my chest had bothered me for fifteen years. Three sessions, honest warnings about the flaking week, and they are gone. Booking the face and chest together was the right call.

Questions

The things people ask us

If yours is not here, ask it at the consult — or email it and Nagwa answers within a business day.

Should I remove my freckles?

Only if you want to. There is no medical reason to, they are not damage, and the effect is difficult to reverse. We are happy to talk you out of it if that is where the conversation goes.

Will they come back?

New ones can form with new sun exposure, and the tendency does not go away. Realistically, expect a top-up every couple of years if you want to stay clear.

I want to keep them but even out my tone — possible?

Yes, and it is a common request. Peels and a good routine lift the dull background so the freckles read as a feature rather than as mess, without targeting them directly.

What does the free consultation actually include?

Twenty minutes with Nagwa: a proper look under clinic light and magnification, your history and any medications, same-light photographs for your file, and a written plan with prices and an order of operations. No deposit, and no obligation to book anything on the day.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes — courses can be split into monthly payments through Cherry, with plans starting around $45 a month depending on the total. We will show you the monthly figure next to the total before you decide anything.

Keep them, soften them, or just get protected properly.

All three are legitimate answers, and the consult is free either way. Fair skin gets our standard protection talk regardless of what you decide.
