Postpartum Hair Loss
Pregnancy holds hair in its growing phase for months; after birth, all of it exits at once. It is dramatic, it is normal, and for most people density returns by the first birthday.

Self-check
Is this postpartum shedding?
Tick what sounds like you. Nothing is stored, and it is not a diagnosis — it just makes the consult faster.
Often mistaken for
Postpartum thyroiditis
Thyroid changes after birth are common and mimic this exactly. Worth a blood test rather than an assumption.
Iron deficiency
Blood loss at delivery plus breastfeeding demand leaves many mothers low. Very treatable, and often the difference.
Pattern thinning
If it has not recovered by a year and your part is widening, this has become a different concern.
Invented for this design: we book postpartum consults with babies welcome, and we keep the plan to what is safe while breastfeeding.
Why it happens
Every follicle that stayed put through pregnancy leaving together
High oestrogen keeps follicles in their growing phase, which is why hair feels thicker during pregnancy. When levels drop after delivery, all of those delayed follicles enter rest at once and shed together two to four months later.
The follicles are not damaged and the cycle restarts — most mothers see baseline density between six and twelve months. What helps is correcting what is genuinely low, protecting a fragile hairline, and not starting anything unsafe for nursing.
1
Bloodwork: ferritin and thyroid, both commonly off after birth.
2
Gentle styling — no tight ponytails on a recovering hairline.
3
Reassess at nine to twelve months; treat properly then if it has not recovered.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars
They ran bloodwork before selling me anything, which no other clinic did, and my ferritin turned out to be on the floor. PRP plus iron and my part is measurably narrower on their photographs, not just in my head.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I have been losing hair for nine years and I am hard to impress. This is the first place that mapped which areas were worth treating and told me plainly which were not, then referred me on for the rest.

Shedding started at three months and I panicked. They checked my iron, told me what was normal, took a photograph of my hairline and asked me to come back in three months. No package, no pressure, and it did recover.
Questions
The things people ask us
If yours is not here, ask it at the consult — or email it and Nagwa answers within a business day.
Will my hair come back?
For most mothers, yes — density returns between six and twelve months without treatment. What we watch for is loss that keeps going past a year or a part that is widening, because that has become pattern thinning and wants a real plan.
What is safe while breastfeeding?
Bloodwork, iron correction, scalp care and gentle styling. We avoid prescription topicals and anything systemic until you are done nursing, and PRP is generally deferred until then too.
Can I bring the baby?
Yes. Invented for this design, but reasonable: postpartum consults are booked with babies welcome, and the appointment is twenty minutes.
What does the free consultation actually include?
Twenty minutes with Nagwa: a proper look under clinic light and magnification, your history and any medications, same-light photographs for your file, and a written plan with prices and an order of operations. No deposit, and no obligation to book anything on the day.
Can I spread the cost?
Yes — courses can be split into monthly payments through Cherry, with plans starting around $45 a month depending on the total. We will show you the monthly figure next to the total before you decide anything.
Mostly you need reassurance and a blood test.
Come in, get the panel checked, get the hairline photographed, and leave with a plan that is safe for nursing — including the plan for later, if it is still going at a year.
