Usually needs nothing

Seasonal Hair Shedding

A real, documented pattern: more follicles enter their resting phase together in late summer, and you notice it six to twelve weeks later. Alarming to watch, and usually self-resolving.

Self-check

Is this seasonal shedding?

Tick what sounds like you. Nothing is stored, and it is not a diagnosis — it just makes the consult faster.

Often mistaken for

Telogen effluvium

Same mechanism, bigger trigger — illness, surgery, crash dieting. Heavier and longer, and worth investigating.

Pattern thinning

Gradual widening of the part that does not recover. Different plan entirely.

Iron or thyroid issues

Shedding that runs past four months should have bloodwork, not reassurance.

Timing is the whole diagnosis here. If it did not start in late summer, or it has run longer than four months, we treat it as something else.

Why it happens

Follicles that synchronised their rest period

Each follicle cycles independently between growing and resting. Seasonal light and heat nudge more of them into rest at the same time, and because shedding happens at the end of that rest, you see the result two or three months later.

Density recovers as those follicles restart. The useful interventions are unglamorous: rule out a deficiency, protect the scalp, do not panic-buy six products at once — because if you did, you would credit the wrong one when it recovers anyway.

1

Count the weeks — genuine seasonal shedding settles within three months.

2

Bloodwork if it runs longer, or if ferritin has never been checked.

3

Gentle scalp care meanwhile, and no new aggressive routine.

They ran bloodwork before selling me anything, which no other clinic did, and my ferritin turned out to be on the floor. PRP plus iron and my part is measurably narrower on their photographs, not just in my head.

I have been losing hair for nine years and I am hard to impress. This is the first place that mapped which areas were worth treating and told me plainly which were not, then referred me on for the rest.

Shedding started at three months and I panicked. They checked my iron, told me what was normal, took a photograph of my hairline and asked me to come back in three months. No package, no pressure, and it did recover.

Questions

The things people ask us

If yours is not here, ask it at the consult — or email it and Nagwa answers within a business day.

How much shedding is too much?

A hundred to a hundred and fifty hairs a day is normal and looks like a lot in the shower. What matters is whether your part is widening and whether it settles within three or four months. Those two answers decide whether this needs treatment.

Should I start minoxidil?

Not for genuine seasonal shedding — you would be treating something that resolves anyway, and stopping later causes its own shed. If your part is widening, that is a different conversation and minoxidil may well belong in it.

Do the supplements on Instagram work?

They work if you are deficient in what is in them. Otherwise you are buying expensive urine. Get the panel first; it costs less than three months of gummies.

What does the free consultation actually include?

Twenty minutes with Nagwa: a proper look under clinic light and magnification, your history and any medications, same-light photographs for your file, and a written plan with prices and an order of operations. No deposit, and no obligation to book anything on the day.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes — courses can be split into monthly payments through Cherry, with plans starting around $45 a month depending on the total. We will show you the monthly figure next to the total before you decide anything.

Sometimes the honest answer is: wait, and here is why.

We will look at your part, check the timing, run the panel if it is warranted, and tell you plainly whether this needs treating. That consult is free and often ends with us selling you nothing.
